Costa Rica is a country that is rich in history and natural beauty. While Costa Rica is known for its beaches and surfing, there is much more to this beautiful country. From its vibrant cities and culture to its commitment to environmental protection, many things make this country special. This itinerary is just one way to approach your experience….
On your first day, you’ll pick up your rental car and arrive at your B&B to settle in for the week ahead.
Grab a Farmhouse Breakfast at the hotel, and drive to Poas Volcano National Park home to some of the most fascinating geothermal features in the world—not to mention an enormous active volcano. You’ll discover geysers, hot springs, and fumaroles in abundance in Poas, but its signature feature without a doubt is the volcano crater itself. Indulge in local cuisine with lunch around town. Take an afternoon coffee tour where you can see firsthand the work being done to partner with local farmers, promote sustainable practices, and develop the next generation of practices of coffee in Costa Rica and around the globe. Enjoy dinner with traditional Costa Rican dishes with locally sourced produce.
Make your way to Arenal via the Central Valley for a canopy tour in Arenal. Live out the experience of soaring through the treetops while you admire the beauty of our tropical rainforests. On clear days you’ll get a view of Arenal Volcano. Your local guide will take you to the Restaurant to enjoy a delicious typical Costa Rican lunch. Join an ATV tour that will take you through open areas, over rough terrain, on trails through the forest, and through the mud. Check into your retreat in Arenal to freshen up and find a cozy spot for dinner. Wander through the serene town of La Fortuna, where the "pura vida" lifestyle is palpable. Here you'll find a few charming restaurants.
The wonders of Arenal's jungle await your discovery as you explore the iconic hanging bridges at Mistic Park. This weaving system of suspension bridges invites you to explore the upper and lower canopies of lush rainforests. Traverse a one-of-a-kind bridge system supported by concrete bricks, allowing for complete stability when used. Journey along a labyrinth nestled in Arenal's mountainous sub-forest. A variety of wildlife can be seen while walking about on this dynamic bridge system, including howler monkeys and a plethora of exotic birds. Marvel at the treasures hidden within this forest and gain insight into this spectacular biological corridor. Eat a light lunch and if you’re up for it, you can head to the breathtaking La Fortuna Waterfall. This 230-ft waterfall spills out into the rainforest with gorgeous jungle views all around. The top of the waterfall offers a birds-eye view into the tropical canyon below. Hike down to the base of the waterfall along an easy-to-navigate trail. At the waterfall's base there are several downstream pools, ideal for a quick dip to cool off. For dinner, get a taste of authentic Costa Rican life and cuisine made from local organic ingredients from the farm where your food class is held. You can help collect the seasonal produce from the fields, then you’ll get back to the kitchen. You’ll not only learn to cook in an open wood-fire kitchen, but you’ll also hear stories about Costa Rican culture, too.
Wave goodbye to Arenal as you drive at your leisure to Manuel Antonio. When passing over the river basin of the Tarcoles River you can pull aside to spot crocodiles on the banks of the river. After checking in at your resort take advantage of the hotel's shuttle transportation to Manuel Antonio beach, unwinding on a beautiful stretch of inviting sand and surf, moving at your own refreshing pace. There are five fantastic beaches to visit in Manuel Antonio, Playa Espadilla, Playa Manuel Antonio, Playa Gemelas, Puerto Escondido, and Playa Biesanz.
Start your day with white water rafting on the cleanest river in Costa Rica, a combination of calm paddling and some white-water thrills. On your way to the rafting site, enjoy picturesque views of African palm plantations, little towns, small rivers, and the jungle. Savegre River offers II and III-class rapids, its bends and turns offering adrenaline and excitement. You will also have opportunities to admire exuberant flora and abundant fauna around you, floating down and even hopping off your rafting to swim in calmer waters. After returning to the hotel, you can jump in the pool and unwind with an outdoor dinner.
Sleep in and enjoy an early lunch before your pick-up for a 4-hour guided exploration of the wonders of Manuel Antonio National Park - a world-famous reserve. Can you spot the troops of monkeys that frequent the area? Navigate through mangrove swamps, lush forests, and marshy woodlands, drinking in the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean. See firsthand why Manuel Antonio is a haven for over 100 mammal species, including the highly endangered squirrel monkey, or "mono titi". Journey along a series of accessible trails to immerse yourself in the heart of the reserve. Relax this evening watching the sunset, or dine out.
Say goodbye to Manuel Antonio as you drive back to the airport to return for your flight home.
