Take your private transfer to your boutique luxury accommodation (traditional Riad) in the Marrakech central medina. As you check in, enjoy a refreshing Moroccan welcome tea in the cool, calming courtyard of the Riad. Then you will be treated to an on-site traditional Hammam experience to wash off the jetlag and reinvigorate and prepare your senses for the adventures ahead. Enjoy sunset snacks and drinks on the riad's rooftop, gazing at the distant Atlas mountains, listening to the muezzins call to prayer echo across the multi-colored rooftops of the old city, after which your group will be guided to a Michelin-starred French / Moroccan restaurant located deep in the tangled alleyways of the medina where you will dine on the rooftop amongst olive and lemon trees covered in faint glittering lights.
Your private guide will pick you up to explore the wonders of Marrakech, starting at Bahia Palace, where you will marvel at the architecture and intricate decorations of this 19th-century palace built to house the Grand Vizier of the Sultan. From there you will continue through the medina, winding your way through the shaded rust-colored alleys of the Medina. Walk through spice bazaars and souqs as you stop to eat olives, rub precious Argan Oil on your skin, haggle with vendors, and eat a heaping plate of juicy, pit-roasted lamb as you sit on crates shoulder to shoulder with Marrakech locals. After your tour you will relax at your Riad, returning in the evening to Marrakesh’s main square since AD 1050, the Djemaa el Fna, to marvel at the snake charmers, local musicians, acrobats, and other performers. From there you will walk to another restaurant for dinner, this one known for traditional Mocorran gastronomy.
Your private guide will take you in a comfortable Toyota 4WD to begin your journey to the Sahara. You will spend the day driving through and over to the far side of the Atlas Mountains. Along the way you will drive past barren, craggy red mountain peaks dotted with remote Berber villages along the slopes, observing with awe the multicolored striations of rock twisted in multiple directions by ancient geological processes. and surprisingly lush oases of green in the deep valleys. You will stop at Telouet Kasbah, an abandoned Berber palace that appears from the exterior to be in ruins, though with surprisingly well-preserved elegant chambers inside. Lunch is served at a quaint traditional restaurant where all sorts of tasty, steaming Moroccan tagines are on the menu. Continuing the journey, you will drive to Dades Gorge and walk along the path between the rock faces, craning your neck to see the top of the cliffs. Reach the far side of the Atlas Mountains and will stop for the night checking into a palatial 4-star luxury resort nestled between fields of date palms.
You will continue your drive to the Sahara, stopping at various landmarks along the way. Highlights of the day include experiencing a Berber souq, a stop at the Skoura oasis with its immense palm groves, and a visit to Ait Benhaddou, a village made famous in several movies including Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, and The Mummy. You will arrive in the late afternoon at your luxury camp which is nestled between the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. After a quick shower and rest in your luxury tent, test your sand surfing skills on the surrounding dunes. When you’ve had your fill (of sand), enjoy sunset drinks and snacks perched on a high dune. After a delicious traditional dinner, join the luxury camp team around a bonfire to listen to Berber music and dance under the stars.
You will spend the day in Erg Chebbi, sampling the cultural and adventure experiences it has to offer. Start with a visit to a Bedouin camp, where Bedouins gift you with their hospitality through sharing tea and learning about how they live and survive in the Sahara. Next, you will do a bit of off-roading with your guide in your 4WD to see the dunes from various angles. Have lunch at a local restaurant in Taouz, where Gnawa musicians, believed to be descended from escaped slaves will perform for you. After lunch, your guide will hand you over to the local ATV experts where you will race, dip, slide and weave across the towering dunes back to your camp. Just before sunset you will ride a camel across the dunes to the best sunset viewing spot in Erg Chebbi where you will watch the glowing red orb sink below the distant horizon and journey back to your camp in the final light of the day.
You’ll be driven to Fez, with a few stops along the way. You will visit the eastern Moroccan town of Errachidia (known for being a stop along the route of the Dakar Rally) and Ifrane, an “alpine” town in the verdant, forested area outside of Fez, where the King of Morocco built his holiday palace. There will be plenty of opportunities to see the barbary macaque monkeys that call this area home. Arrive early evening in Fez, checking into your 4/5 star hotel.
You will be met by your private tour guide in the morning to take you to the Fez medina. Appreciate the differences of this bustling medina given it is built on a hill. Explore the confusing alleys and souqs, stepping aside as local mule drivers pass by. Step inside the Medersa Bou Inania, one of the finest of Fez’s theological colleges. Visit the famous Chaouwara Tanneries and admire from the viewing terrace the colorful grids of leather being dyed in grid-like pits. Select your next handbag or leather coat and haggle with the salesmen to get the best deal. Eat lunch in the depths of the medina, feasting on Moroccan dishes. After lunch, return to your hotel and spend the afternoon at your leisure, perhaps visiting one of the many Hammams or strolling around the Bou Jeloud gardens in New Fez.
